Q: Why should I fill out this application and what is it used for?
A: Filling out the web application will allow you to sign up for classes on resume writing, interviewing, career fairs, networking sessions, WIA orientations, apply for training programs we sponsor, apply with employers hiring through JobLink, and sign up for many other useful events that can help you in your job search. This web application is meant to be an easier way to give you access to this information as well as new opportunities.

Q: Do you really need this much personal info? Who else has access to my information?
A: The information that you put into this system is confidential. JobLink employees or administrators may have access to the web application but no person outside of JobLink staff will be able to access your private information.

Q: How long does the application take?
A: It shouldn’t take any longer than 10-15 minutes to complete your application.

Q: I don’t have an e-mail address – do I need one to sign up?
A: You don’t need an e-mail address to sign-up, however, we strongly suggest that you get one. We will use e-mail to contact you about future employment opportunities and you can also retrieve your password information if you forget it. To get a free e-mail account you can sign up for one at www.gmail.com or www.yahoo.com or www.hotmail.com.

Q: Help! I forgot my login! What do I do?
A: Do not fill out the application again. Simply click the “Forgot my Login Information” link and enter the information requested. We strongly suggest that you have an e-mail address but if you do not, call Guilford JobLink and ask resource room staff to retrieve your login information for you.

Q: Does filling out this application mean I’ve signed up for WIA?
A: No, this application will allow you to sign up for WIA informational orientations where you can learn more about eligibility.

Q: How often do I need to check the application?
A: You should sign on at least once a week. We don’t want you to miss an opportunity that may be helpful to you

Q: Can I get access to the online system at home? Do I have to be at JobLink to check the application?
A: Yes, you can access www.guilfordjoblink.com and login from anywhere. You can use your home computer or a computer at the library or at a friend’s house.

Q: Can I use JobLink’s services without using the online application?
A: We are encouraging all of our customers to start using the web application because of how easy it is for you to get the information you need. This will become our primary means of signing people up for classes, events, and orientations.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Eligibility

What is WIA?
Training and Employment Services, A JobLink Partner, administers Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs to help individuals with the tools necessary to obtain and retain employment at a level of self-sufficiency and to improve their income. WIA is the primary source of federal dollars for Dislocated Worker training.

What are the basic eligibility requirements for WIA services?
• 16 years of age or older
• A United States citizen or eligible non-citizen
• In compliance with the registration provision of the military Selective Service Act

What is a dislocated worker?
• An individual who has been terminated, laid off, or who has received notice of termination or layoff from employment, and is eligible for or has exhausted entitlement to unemployment compensation, and is unlikely to return to a previous industry or occupation
• An individual who is employed at a facility at which the employer has made a general announcement that such facility will close within 180 days
• An individual who is a displaced homemaker

If I am unemployed, underemployed or have been laid off from my job, what assistance is available?
If you are unemployed or have been laid off from a job, have good work history and skills, and are actively seeking employment, Training & Employment Services may be able to assist you with the following services to help you get a job:
• Career Counseling and Planning
• Job Leads and Referrals
• Networking Opportunities
• Job Search Preparation
• Skills Assessment

WIA scholarships for training programs may be also available. However, they are only used for people who have made intensive efforts to find a job using their existing skills and are unsuccessful because their previous work experience and/or training is not sufficient to enter or re-enter the job market.
