The JobsNow “12 in 6” program is an initiative of Gov. Beverly Perdue. This training is geared to help workers quickly (training programs offered over a six month period) learn new skills and re-enter the job market in positions where there are employment needs to be filled.

Funding for this initiative is supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Development and the local Workforce Development Board.

JobsNow is a partnership between Guilford Technical Community College and the Guilford County Job Link System. 

What is the process to participate in this program?

Step One: Individuals interested in the welding training must complete an online “Workforce Investment Act (WIA)” interest application (see link at bottom of this page).

Step Two: After submitting an online application, you will be scheduled to attend an information session at the Guilford JobLink Career Center (Greensboro or High Point).

Step Three: Individuals must meet the testing requirements and WIA eligibility criteria for workers who have been laid-off, dislocated, unemployed and under-employed.

Step Four: Individuals meeting the above criteria will be assigned to work with a WIA Career Developer and receive case management services. Financial assistance will be provided to cover the cost of training.

Green Weatherization Training
New September 10, 2010


Green Weatherization Training includes the following courses:

Building Principles
This class will provide students with an understanding of building science principals. Topics covered will include infiltration theory, diagnostic techniques, and hands on experience auditing a complex house.

Weatherization & Tactics
This class will cover approaches of whole house weatherization and installation techniques. Students will receive hands on training that will focus on areas of health and safety on the jobsite, air sealing, insulation placement, sealing ductwork, and using blower door guided air sealing techniques to weatherize a dwelling.

Mobile Home Inspection & Weatherization
This class will prepare students to complete energy audits on mobile homes. Students will receive training on installing materials and the specific problems and concerns that are encountered with Mobile Homes.

Program requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have high school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
Students should not have any fear of crawling in small tight spaces.
Candidates should be advised of the extreme weather conditions involved in this field due to the nature of the work.
Classes are scheduled to run from October 25th—December 14th.
Monday – Thursday 8am —12 at the Greensboro GTCC Campus

JobsNow Welding Training
New September 17, 2010

This course introduces metal arc welding and flux core arc welding processes. Topics include equipment setup and fillet and groves welds with emphasis on application of GMAW (MIG) and FCAW electrodes on carbon steel plate.

Upon completion, students should be able to perform fillet welds on carbon steel with prescribed electrodes in the flat, horizontal, and overhead positions.

This program is designed to prepare you for employment in the construction field as a combination welder.
Classes from October 4 - October 29
Classes will be at GTCC Jamestown Campus.
Monday– Friday 4pm - 10pm.
